Accommodation in the private sector

Living in private apartments is the solution most of the exchange students choose, like the Italian ones. It is important for all students to know, though, that finding a room in Bologna can be difficult;  this for at least three reasons:

  1. Prices
Bologna, as far as rents are concerned, is one of the most expensive towns in Italy. Only rents in Milan and Rome can be more expensive. The average monthly rent for a single room is € 350,00 and € 250,00 for a shared room (not including bills), but these prices can even be higher when demand is particularly strong, that is in September and October.
  2. Time
Unfortunately it is quite normal to take at least from 7 to 10 working days to find suitable accommodation.
  3. Need for temporary accommodation
As students may take a few days before finding permanent accommodation, it is imperative that they have some kind of accommodation reserved or secured before arrival in Bologna. This too may be difficult because there is only one youth hostel and the number of hotels available is limited, and above all, very expensive. To collect information about temporary accommodation in Bologna please check the relevant section on our web site.
